aboard the motor-home must not exceed the number of berth
mentioned on the registration document. It is link with the
weight allowed by the vehicle with a maximum of 6 people. The
only exception are children under ten years old who account for
half a berth.
LUGGAGE SPACE Your motor-home has a
wardrobe and enough luggage space for the number of people on
board, but take care not to take to many suitcases or bags with
you, because the space in the luggage areas is fairly limited in
certain models. It's a good idea to stock
heavy objects at the bottom of the vehicle in the vehicle boots
so as to conserve good road handling.
TAKING CHARGE OF THE VEHICLE Don't hesitate to ask
questions about how a certain apparatus work for example, it's
best to always try it yourself so as to be sure about how to use
it. Our correspondants will
be delighted to spend up to an hour of their time explaining how
different on board equipment works: this will allow you to
benefit from their experience thus avoiding disagreeable
situations due to a bad use of the motor-home.
Gas Each motor-home is
equipped with 2 bottles of gas, one in use and the other full.
This is more than enough for traditional 2 to 3 weeks holidays
(Except in winter time when one must expect to use 13 kg of
propane per week). These bottles must be closed when on the
road!
Electricity You have at least 2
batteries aboard, one for the engine and one or several auxiliary
batteries for the passenger compartment. On the road, the
alternator automatically charges the 2 batteries. If you stop off
for more than 2 days somewhere, you are advised to survey the
power level of the auxiliary battery but a breakdown is
particularly uncommon.
Running water A pump keeps pressure on
the system providing hot and cold water.
Levels A general chart is
provided summing up the tests needed to know the levels of clean
and used water as well as the level of the auxliary
battery.
Water emptying This sign means a
motor-home service area. You can fill up with 100 l of water free
of charge or for 2 euros and you can also have an hour's
electricity recharged. In these service areas you can also change
your used water and your WC tray free of charge.
Openings The window and skylights
must be closed while on the road so as not to be ripped off by
the wind.
Driving The motor-home is more
than 2.5 m wide, 6 m long and between 2.6 m and 3 m high. Drivers
must be particularly vigilant concerning height.
Responsibility In the case of ice: it
is your responsibility to keep the heating on non-stop and to put
the appropriate antifreeze liquids in the reservoirs.
In the case of the theft of your personnel belongings: you are
responsible.
In the case of an accident: fill-in a accident report stating
the responsibility of each driver in the accident.
PARKING You can park just about
anywhere, the most important thing is to use common sense,
limiting any damage which might be done to other drivers' vision
or concentration. This will continue to make motor-homes welcome
in different towns.
FILLIN UP WITH WATER You will be able to find
service areas specially designed for motor-homes in major town
areas. You will find the Service Area directory, which is issued
every year at the beginning of April, aboard the motor-home. Most
service stations offer it free of charge.
TOLLS Although they only have a
single axle, the motorway toll companies demand between 35 and
50% more for motor-home than for family cars.
FUEL CONSUMPTION All our vehicles have
diesel turbo engines, their fuel consumptiion varies according to
driving speed. In normal driving conditions , at 90 km per hour,
a motor-home consumes about 20 litres per hundred km, but in
externe mountainous conditions or at speeds between 110 and 130
km per hour. This consumption can increase by about 20 to
35%.
